My work explores digital escapism and the unconscious idolization of unreal, posthuman characters in relation to online subculture and self-identification.
Influenced by the substantial rise of internet communication and community, as well as my religious upbringing, my paintings explore the similarities between consumption and idol worship.
The representation of unrealistic, digital, hypersexual, and anthropomorphic figures act as substitutes for more digestible social interactions, manipulating our grasp on reality. Through the creation of surrogate humans, those who feel socially withdrawn are better able to connect with others. Resulting from a collective generation of digital dissociation, worship is afforded to the unreal and manufactured, and we must recognize their lasting impact as a new iconography.
